Hi.
Yes, a blind person can install Linux without sighted assistance, but
you need make sure that the machine is configured to boot via CD and
you are using Ubuntu. I am not sure if other distros has an accessible
installer.
I recommend to install Ubuntu 12.04.
Boot your machine with a cd of a desktop version of Ubuntu 12.04.
Wait until you hear a sound like a drumb.
Press ctrl+s to activate orca, the screen reader that comes with gnome.
You'll be presented to orca's screen and orca should be speak.
Press alt+tab to change to the installer where you can chose between
try the live cd or install Ubuntu into your machine.
