This bug seems to be yet another case of broken Gecko hierarchies.
Asking for the index in parent for objects is sometimes returning -1

that's rather interesting, setting a conditional breakpoint in
libatk-adaptors impl_GetIndexInParent() after the call to
atk_object_get_index_in_parent() conditioned on the return being less
than 0 the breakpoint is never hit.

Mike, might this be an issue with a stale cache or something else in
libatspi?

Trev

which indicates something is invalid. I worked around this condition and
stopped the Orca hang. That's the good news. The bad news is that if the
structural navigation object you are expecting to navigate to is a
sibling or a descendant of the object with the invalid index in parent,
the odds are extremely good that Orca will skip over it. There is
nothing I can do about that in Orca I'm afraid. We need valid indexes in
order to find siblings.

Thanks for the report!

Hi all.

Try the following:
1: Using firefox open the following url:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners_Guide#Installing_on_a_virtual_machine

2: After the page is loaded go to begin of the page pressing ctrl+home.

3: Press shift+h.

In my machine orca stays completely mute and I have to kill firefox.
After kill firefox, orca returns to normal state.

I am running ubuntu 12.10, gnome-shell and firefox 16.0.2.
Thanks.
