[orca-list] A Book for Debian/Debian-based Systems Users

Hello, everyone.

NOTE: To any list moderators,

If you feel that this message is too off-topic for this list, I will understand if you remove it, and I sincerely apologize in any time lost and any inconvenience encountered in doing so.

I am sorry for this, as I know that it is mostly off-topic, but I know that there are a lot of Ubuntu users here on this list, as well as some Debian users. I have been tracking the workings of a free book entitled "The Debian Administrator's Handbook" for quite some time now since I saw a post concerning it on a Linux Mint blog many months ago.

This book was originally written in the French language by two Debian developers and was sold commercially. The authors felt that the book should be liberated, and so a campaign was started to liberate the book and translate it into English, and it appears that other translations are being set into motion. According to a blog post [1] on the book's page, the book is available for purchase in printed form, is available to read freely online [2], and is available as a free download in three formats (direct links are in the footnotes): PDF [3], EPUB [4], and Mobipocket [5]. If you are running Debian Unstable, you can get the book by running the following command:

sudo apt-get install debian-handbook

This book has been released under the following licenses:
-GPL-2+
-CC-BY-SA 3.0

As I mentioned earlier, I am very sorry for this off-topic post, but being an intermediate user of Ubuntu, I know that this book will be very helpful to me and any others here on this list who use Debian or a derivative who want to know how to more effectively use their system.

I hope that you find this message a help and a blessing.

Please keep in mind that the servers on which this book is located are receiving a LOT of traffic, so download times *could be* slow.

Take care, and best wishes.
