Hi,
Yes, please do. I find myself in a similar situation as Dave. I run
Linux pretty heavily on my laptop, and there isn't a convenient way to
check the battery status in gnome-shell. This is actually one area
where Unity 2D is ahead of Gnome in access as I can do alt+f10 and
right arrow over to the battery status. Not so with Gnome.

In summary, the problem is the same that with menus with dimmed items.
As the user can't interact with them, those items are not included on
the focus chain. So battery menu has a line with the battery status, but
as the user can't really interact with it, it is not included on the
focus chain. I will try to solve this bug, not sure when, as it would be
required to debate with GNOME Shell developers about it.
