Thomas,
Even I am doubtful.
F10 does not give me the menu, alt + f10 does.

Hi Andy,
Not sure if this is a typo or not but the key to access the menu
bar is f10 not alt+f10. I use Windows+d to go to the desktop,
press f10, and land on the menu bar. Also make sure you are using
Unity 2D not Unity 3D.

Does anyone else have this problem, and if so, how do you deal
with it? When I start Ubuntu 12.04 and sign in, orca says
"welcome to orca...desktop" I then press ALT+F10 to access the
menu bar for Unity and the desktop. Unfortunately, the only
visible items are the indicator icons. I know there is a menu
part of the toolbar; its getting orca to consistently access it.
