I'm not sure where you can find a comprehensive list of accessible apps for Linux, but to answer your 
specific questions, I have found that Gpodder works rather well for receiving podcasts and Mplayer and 
thegnome-mplayer front-end are quite usable for playing audio and video files. Additionally, once qt-at-spi 
makes it into Trisquel, which could possibly happen with the next release, VLC will become mostly compatible 
with Orca and the accessibility infrastructure.
