Re: [orca-list] Got Gwibber to work ... sort of

Hello, Krischnakant,

I know what problem you are having. You need to select mpp as your protocol. There is an optin to have facebook be the account you set up then. You use chat.facebook.com as the domain name. Also, give it your username and not your e-mail address. For instance, mine is alexjmidence. It is what I use to get onto my Facebook instead of my e-mail address which is also ok for m.facebook.com but not for a client that access the api. So, to summarize:

Use mpp as the protocol
Use chat.facebook.com as the domain name
Give it your username and not your e-mail address

That should be all you need. Let me know if you run into any trouble.

Hi Alex,
Can you exactly guide me to setup pidgin with facebook chat?
I tried this but finally given up.
Please explain every step in details, as I have several attempts from pidgin failing. I go to manage accounts choose protocol as facebook but nothing happens even after giving correct user details.
I am using Ubuntu 12.04.
happy hacking.

Doesn't look like it. For updating your status and for commenting, liking and that sort of thing yes but for chat, use Empathy or my own personal favorite, Pidgin. Pidgin works very well with Facebook except that, from time to time, on Precise, a notification about somebody going off line or coming online will make Orca freeze up. What Pidgin will not do, however is read your facebook status or feed.

Hi, all,

Just wanted to announce that I've had some success with Gwibber for
reading my Twitter timeline and my Facebook as well. Setting it up
was a bit painful since some of the fields weren't labeled quite right
but, once it's working, it's not too bad to read. Still can't do
anything fancy with it yet but, it's coming along. I'm just happy to
be able to read both of them from one place. Next milestone for me is
actually posting on one of these two services through it. That's
proving a bit of a challenge. I'm still using Smuxi for tweeting and
the mobile interface to facebook for my wall and posting comments on
other people's walls. I'm sure Gwibber is pretty scriptable right now
though. It has tons of potential. Kudos to all who made that
possible.
