Re: [orca-list] Problems running Orca

Yeah. I also have the rsgames client installed. That uses speech-dispatcher, and can talk.

Hi Joani and all,
No idea why that is, Speech-dispatcher is installed and working. Ah well. I applied that patch to the
source and reemerged it, but now orca won't talk at all. When I run

as in spd-say works?

Welcome to Orca setup.
Speech is unavailable.
Enable Braille? Enter y or n:
...Then the rest of the setup prompts. Orca runs after that, but of course it doesn't talk. Should I try
orca from git and see if that works?

This to me looks like a case where you don't have speech-dispatcher
installed so it attempted to fall back on the emacspeak support which is
not maintained. But in a fortunate coincidence, Dmitri Paduchikh found
the bug you did in the emacspeak support for Orca. I have just committed
his patch to master. That won't help you for a shipping 3.2.1, but his
patch is attached to the bug he filed -- and should still apply since
the emacspeak support hadn't been touched in years. See:

Hope this helps! Take care.

Hi all,
I just did the upgrade from gnome 2.32 to 3.2.1 and restarted dbus and xdm. From a console (with
DISPLAY set to :0), I ran orca -t. It gave me some traceback about a broken
pipe, so I had a look in the file (it wanted to run
/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/emacspeak/servers/outloud), copied the espeak server to the outloud
server, and went through
the orca setup. Using speakup to read the prompts (forgot about all the outloud voice commands...), I
answered all the questions, and reran orca. Now, I get this traceback.
I've tried googling for it, which wasn't much help, and I have no idea how to fix. Any idea what's up?
