I generated an arch package using a modified version of the PKGBUILDER file.
I installed using pacman and receive a message telling me that the
package was updated.
I'll repeat the process to make sure that I didn't make something wrong.
Thanks.

Perhaps I am doing something wrong, but the problem persists in my machine.
I built from master and installed, reboot my machine, repeat the
same test and receive the same error.
I tried three times.
Are you sure you are running the newer version that you just built and
installed?
This depends on which directory it was installed into and whether your PATH
and library path will pick up the correct version.
The best way to avoid these issues is to install by updating your
distribution's package and rebuilding it. these days, I try to avoid running
"make install" on anything I compile, because it's harder to remove or upgrade
later.
Also, yu don't have to reboot your machine after installing software. In this
case, all you have to do is restart the X server.
