Hi Michael,
Using VMWare is actually pretty simple. In fact, if you are worried
about messing up your system that's where a virtual machine like VMWare
comes in handy because you can't damage your host OS using a virtual
machine. What you do is install VMWare and tell it to create a new
partition. Its not actually a physical partition, but creates a virtual
partition inside a swap file, and doesn't actually change the physical
partition table of your hard drive. Then, you install Ubuntu or whatever
OS you want inside that swap file and can run the guest OS at the same
time as your host. I think given the complexity involved in installing
Linux on a Mac a virtual machine is probably the best way to go.
Cheers!

i think you are right on this point. there is something about how the
boot up process is different on the mac than the pc and there is a
tool you have to run which changes the system before you can run ubuntu.
i myself have never used vmware as you have to use it to create space
for a vertual hard drive and i have not waanted to mess up a computer
trying to get it right with the space i wanted to use.
