Re: [orca-list] Orca and the desktop

Well, as I said things improved a lot lately, but AFAIK mostly on the
framework/base support. For what I know their next step is working on
the details of reviewing the KDE apps.

Anyway, as I said, kde-accessibility ml folks could know it better.

What a coincidence. I tried KDE last night. More precisely, I tried
to try it. I installed it on my Ubuntu vm from a gnome terminal
within unity 2d:

sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

A lot of stuff didn't work for me. Amarok was sort of accessible with
flat review (kind of cool, actually) but the menus were not. The
other stuff like Kate and Kopete korganizer crashed immediately upon
launch. I'm not sure why.

I wonder if launching this stuff from KDE itself might be beneficial
but switching from Unity to KDE is proving a challenge. Lightdm does
not talk and GDM doesn't either in 11.10. Gdmsetup seems to have
fallen by the wayside somehow too so, I can't enter that into a
terminal to change the desktop that is brought up at launch even once
I'm logged in. Now, I probably have to track down some arcane string
to punch into the command line itself which will undoubtedly consist
of some cryptic command and a few switches whose abbreviated format
makes sense only to the person who wrote the code. I am quite certain
it won't be something so simple as:

sudo desktopswitch --kde

Go ahead. Try it. Misery and frustration love company. =)

During the last months qt folks improved a lot qt-at-spi, and it started
to being functional tested with Orca. So in theory KDE can be an option
now. But not sure about how much functional is.

You could try to ask to kde-accessibility list:
kde-accessibility kde org
