Wow, I just looked and the prod version of espeak according to Arch is
1.45.05 and this test version is 1.45.47? Wonder what it takes to get
caught clear up. Thanks Michael, I believe you may have been the one
to build that AUR package. Up til yesterday, I never had any real
issues with espeak. Guess I'll better and get that package.

Thanks Michael!
I finally got espeak 1.45.47 compiled. Also wound up having to do a
spd-conf. But now I no longer can reproduce the bug either. As I
commented in bugzilla, hopefully the distros will pick up this new
version of espeak soon....
Take care.

You probably know Joannie, but I have done this and do not get the issue
with the test version of espeak. Added this comment to the bug report, why
you should know.

Hey Michael.
Since you are not seeing it, and since I am currently dealing with
compiling errors for the latest espeak, would you mind trying the test
case I filed in this bug:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=663960
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
Initially this sounds like the same issue. Are you using espeak with
speech-dispatcher? It seems to have gone away for me by upgrading to the
latest test version of espeak. On ArchLinux you can get this version of
espeak by using the AUR package espeak-test.

Subject: [orca-list] Crazy Speech Changes
I recall some folks talking about sudden speech rate changes with
Speech Dispatcher. Up til now, I never had such experiences but now
that I'm on the National Braille Press web site,
http://www.nbp.org
I scroll down most pages and at certain points, the speech rate will
suddenly slow to some excruciatingly slow speed! If I go to a console
and run spd-say with a single phrase, speechd then resumes its normal
speech rate again til it happens again. Is this what others were
experiencing?
I'm using speech dispatcher as my usual central service with ALSA and
latest gnome 3.2 and similar Orca.
Any ideas? I've never had this before now.
