I say drop it.

As to hardware speech synths, I am another who wishes to see speech-dispatcher support hardware speech 
synths, and there was even a discussion on the speech-dispatcher list a while back about this very topic. I 
too would be happy to help develope such a driver, however I currently do not have time to make a start. If 
someone else was to make a start, I will help whereever I can and where time permits.
