Re: [orca-list] switching speech language frequently

Hi, RJ:

We are lacking a good design solution for rapid language switching. BTW,
I don't believe this is something that Orca can, or should try to solve
on its own.

I have a proposal. What about a speech-dispatcher config option that
would allow users to identify the languages they use frequently so that these
could be preloaded as GNOME loads?

A successful solution, imho, should not require the user to identify the
document language except for simple TEXT files. Anywhere there's
document markup, we should be able to auto-retrieve the lang declaration
and use the appropriate TTS.

I would also note that some documents are multi-lingual so that it is
also often advisable to use multiple TTS in a single document, e.g.:

"Would you like a <lang=fr>croissant</lang> today?"

Our TTS solutions do us all a diservice when they use English phonemes
and English rules to pronounce all of the above sentence, especially if
there's a French TTS available on the system.

So, my second suggestion ...

When retrieving a document, our machines should not only auto-switch the
default document language for TTS, they should parse ahead looking for
additional lang ml so that any additional available TTS can be
preloaded.

Hi all,

I have to switch the language orca speaks to me very often between
dutch, english, german and french.

To do this you have to go to Orca Preferences, select the Speech tab
then choose the box "Person", change that to the language you want, move
up to the box "Voice Settings" change it to 'hyperlink' move back to
'Person" and change that too to the language you want, do Alt+o press
spacebar, and wait a sec.

If you are living in more than one language (as most non english
speaking people will have to when moving around on the internet) you
have to do this very often.
Would it be possicble to make a script to switch between langauages with
a single key combination ?

Without orca it would be very difficult for me to use Linux.

the question has been posted before by someone else:

But I can't find any answers or solutions yet.
