I've run into similar situations from time to time with 4.0 Beta and I
could sometimes remedy the problem by reloading the page with Ctrl+r.
It was especially bad when the default Mozilla Google page.  When aI
changed it to something else, I have not had the problem lately.  It
might be fixed with later nightly builds of the program as well.
