Re: [orca-list] Unity and Orca

The Vinux 3.2.1 distribution is based on 11.04 and runs Gnome 2 or
Classic Gnome as it's default desktop. I'm just pointing this out as
another option.

BTW, I agree with the sentiment that if it isn't broken don't fix it,
but I also think it's naive to think that computers, operating systems
and applications aren't going to change over time and incorporate new
features. After all, nothing in DOS 3.3 was broken, but I'm glad I'm not
still running DOS on a PC with 640K of RAM and a 40M hard drive. There
are a lot of good features in Windows 7 over Windows XP and that
includes accessibility. Unity is new and has some accessibility short
comings at the moment, but I look forward to the day when Unity rocks
and I'm running Unity on my desktop, laptop, tablet, cell phone and so on!

Finally, you could still be running Windows XP. You'll stop getting
support for it, and it won't be updated, but it'll still run, and if it
isn't broken, why do you need updates anyway? ;-) The security attacks
against it will probably also fall off as Windows 7 takes over from XP
in the market place. You could also still be running the LTS Ubuntu
10.04. It'll be supported for something like 5 years. Neither 10.10 or
11.04 are LTS releases.

Hello.

You can switch back to the GNOME desktop by following these steps (I am
sorry, but I do not know how well Orca works with these steps as I use a
screen magnifier via Compiz for access):

1. Log out of your current Unity desktop.

2. At the login screen, select your user name (do not login yet, though.

3. A menu will appear at the bottom of the screen which contains options
for desktop environments. If you select "Ubuntu Classic" this will log
you in to the classic GNOME desktop which you are used to.

I was not too fond of Unity, either; it did not play well with the
Compiz Enhanced Zoom Desktop (eZoom) plugin which I use for screen
magnification.

I am sorry that I cannot be of much help in doing this strictly with the
keyboard.

Hi,
I installed Ubuntu 11.04 which has unity.
I hate windows 7 and like windows XP.
Now I feel like I'm using windows 7.
Is there a way to get rid of Unity in Ubuntu and go back to the menus like I
had in 10.10?
I otherwise may go back to 10.10, unless there is enough of a reason to stay
in 11.04.
I am really annoyed at all this.
I believe in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
