Re: [orca-list] Upgrading Orca

Hi,

If I take the Debian's experience, I'd say that upgrading until orca
3.0.4 is possible with gnome2. Orca 3.1 and newer seem in test, with
gnome3, and especially with at-spi2 which is not yet really stable. I
know someone who, on Debian 6.0, could install orca 3.0.4 (it's not the
default, but he managed to get this with some individual work), which
works with gnome2 and at-spi1. I don't think going beyond is a good idea
at this time. Anyway, all that isn't so easy due to the packaging
issues, you should do that carefully and ask help in the distro in order
to do such upgrades.

Regards,

Hi everyone,

I'm running a Ubuntu 10.10 session with Gnome 2. My Orca version is
2.32.0. I just saw that this version is not really up to date... not
at all would be a better way to put it.

This would be great to update this Orca version. But I read that I
needed Gnome 3 in order to run the last Orca versions.

Well, maybe I'm wrong. I'm a pretty new user on Linux and I still miss
a lot of stuffs.

My question is : do I need to have Gnome 3 for running the latest
version of Orca ? Do I need to upgrade my actual Ubuntu version to
11.04 in order to have Gnome 3 installed ? And how could I, as simply
as could be, do these things ?

Thanks for your answers. Please excuse my English, still making a lot
of mistakes!

Vincent
