Hello,
Not quite sure about the delay without knowing what version of orca you
are using and what version of thunderbird. However I do get a slight
delay when closing a message, but this really isn't significant and
doesn't bother me, may be your delay is longer and something else.
I don't know the key for next and previous message, but there are
options in the "go" menu for doing that.
As for accessing the attachments, I know someone has suggested using
flat review, but I prefer going to the file menu, going down to
attachments and selecting them from that menu. In fact it allows you to
access parts of multipart messages (eg. these orca mailing list messages
when your list settings are set to digest and mime message format, I can
access individual messages sent to the list despite being sent a digest
message).

Hello,
I'm using thunderbird with some success but have a couple observations.
I'm running orca 3.0 and noticed that when I hit ctrl-w to close a
message, there is a several seconds delay before orca announces the
current message in the message list.
If, however, I delete the message with the del key, the next message
is read without a noticeable delay. Has anyone else noticed this
behavior?
Next, how to move to the next/previous message when reading mail?
Finally, is there any way to view/save attachments in orca?
Chris
