Michael,
Type "sudo do-release-upgrade -d" without the quotes. Since maverick is
a development release, you need to specify that you want to upgrade
using dash D.
I hope this was helpful.

i have tried upgrading lucid to maverick with a sudo
do-release-upgrade but i just get an "no upgrade found" message read

if i were to type update-manager dash d from the run dialogue, the
maverick upgrade is found which is strange.
