Re: [orca-list] ORCA improvements

Hi,

Fix voxin problems on 64-bit Ubuntu Lucid. We use it with
speech-dispatcher, but the voice is garbled for some reason, only on
64-bit.

This sounds like an interesting one, is it reproduceble on other distros? does cpu speed effect it?

Fix usb-creator-gtk. Currently any Python application that updates
it's widgets with a thread locks up the system if Orca is running. I
believe this is a bug in atk-spi-registryd, and effects several other
programs as well.

has anyone tested this with the dbus implementation of atk and at-spi-registryd? I suspect that the
implementations are completely different right? I personally don't believe its worth trying to fix this in
the corba version since that will be completely retired in a couple years, but if someone wants to attack an
interesting threading problem they can :-).

Figure out why Orca is not reading upper case chars in a higher pitch.
There's some problem in the Orca/speech-dispatcher interface.

ok, interesting I might take a look at this one, it shouldn't be too bad. If the speech-dispatcher end seems
to be doing the right thing, I'll let someone else have fun with the python :).

New Features
------------

Make evince accessible. We need a PDF solution with Orca.

improving pdftotext would be another good option.

Add "read to file" capability to Orca, which needs a speech-dispatcher
upgrade to return synthesized speech rather than just play it.

wouldn't another option be to tell speechd were to write the data? This could even do your returning audio
with the file speechd is told to write to being a unix socket.
