I was wondering if anyone knows if orca will work with gnome 3 when it
comes out? I have tried to use the new gnome-shell in ubuntu 9.10 and
orca did not work at all. Is there anything I can do to do some testing
and report to gnome? Thanks for your help.
Right now the accessibility support for gnome is mainly based in the
supposition that the gnome-applications are gtk+ based applications.
In this case the a11y support for gtk+ applications are provided by
GAIL.
gnome-shell is not a gtk+ application, and this is the reason that it
has no orca support. zero.
gnome-shell is a clutter application, and I'm trying to use cally to
grant a11y support. You can take a look to my first attempts here [2].
A lot of updates on Cally were made since then (thanks to Joanmarie
for her help). Anyway, the current status is that although the AtkUtil
methods were implemented, if I try to execute orca or accerciser,
gnome-shell still frozes, although I can see the a11y object hyerarchy
with dogtail.
Right now I'm still trying to get a proper development environment, as
I'm having some issues trying to use a custom at-spi, because it
collides with the system one, or just using the system one with my
in-development cally and gnome-shell.
About the status of accessibility on gnome3, Willie Walker made a
really complete summary here [1].
