Hello List,
This is my first ever post on this list, and I am only inquiring about
linux. I am not inquiring about any specific distribution. As long as Orca
will work in the kernel of the distribution. I am an amateur linguist. I
have a BA in Spanish. Languages are my life. I haven't played very much with
linux, although Chris Gilland has helped me substantially. How does Orca do
with Unicode as a whole? I'm not talking about how Speech-Dispatcher or
Gnome-Speech, though way outdated, passes the Unicode value through to
specific voices; rather, I speak of how Unicode is done in Orca. Is there a
key binding that I can press that will announce the ASCII/Unicode value for
a character? For example, the Arabic letter (phonetically pronounced "yeh")
is Decimal value 0610. This is crucial, as if I am not using an Arabic voice
and I encounter an Arabic character, I won't know what I'm seeing.
On a final and separate note, what does TTY stand for and mean when speaking
of a bash terminal?
I hope to become more fluent at this different OS, namely Linux, and I hope
to help the flow of information with yall in the future, possibly
contributing to the Linux project.
Ben

OK, so I know that num pad 2 desktop=say character | twice=say
phinetically if character=letter, and I also know on the laptop that
command is capslock comma, but is there not a way to get the ascii or
unicode value of a character that your flat review sits on? I have a
friend who's really into languages who is trying to figure this out. I
thought for sure I remembered doing this on accident once, but God shoot
me, if I remembered how I did it, and I don't think I was dreaming I did
this, or, was I? This is something we really need to implement, if it's
not there and I awswsure you that my friend will write the list with his
opinion on this and advicate for what I am saying. That is the only
reason he's not convert3ed, but I'll let you all hear it from him
directly.
Chris.
