Oopse, forgot this list's reply-to policy.

Mind sending this to the full list for discussion?
The other insert key is NumPad 0.

Proposal 2: Instead of the combo box, we have a control which can
"capture" a modifier in a fashion similar to how we rebind other keys.
Pro: You'd have more modifiers to choose from without the risk of
selecting something that doesn't exist on your keyboard.
Con: Harder to implement and thus may or may not be done prior to the
GNOME UI and string freezes; have not eliminated potential conflicts
down the road.
Thoughts?
Another con for option 2 is that you don't seem to have the choice of
setting two modifier keys (I.e. both insert keys, as was one choice with
option 1.)
Even so, I prefer option 2 though it may be more difficult to implement.
I have this hope that one day I'll be able to run Orca on a phone or
other mobile device running GNOME 3.16 or something. In that instance,
it would really be annoying if that phone lacked an insert/caps lock
key, and my only other modifier choices were tiny buttons located in the
most awkward of places. In that instance, you're going to have to add a
fifth option and keep introducing solutions for corner cases where your
limited choices don't allow for someone's strange keyboard
configuration. While I think that too much complexity is definitely a
bad thing, too little is often just as bad.
I think that if users switch the Orca modifier away from the default,
then they are generally aware that they've done so. In those instances,
they'll know when they're using a canonical command which won't work
because of their conscious choice. Or perhaps I give users too much
credit, but in any case, I don't think that protecting users from
themselves quite justifies majorly limiting choice in this instance. :)
P.S. Pardon the silly question, but where is this other insert key on my
keyboard that works as an Orca modifier? I've always used the one in the
six-pack. While it's awkward, I assumed that things were done this way
as to minimize conflicts with application keyboard shortcuts, so I just
dealt with the awkwardness and moved on. :)
