Hi
This isn't strictly Orca related, but actually Trev you're quite wrong
for a number of reasons:
1. Simply copying files off of an audio cd will leave them as cd format
which the iPod doesn't play. Nautilus will make them appear as .wav
which the iPod will play, but are obviously large. Typically you'd
encode to mp3 or AAC (note that iPods do not play ogg). but you cannot
simply copy files onto an iPod, leading to:
2. The iPod uses a database format and its own crazy folder structure.
You need to use software, like Rhythmbox or gtkpod, that understands
this database format. You can copy files all you want, but the iPod
won't see anything if it's not entered into the database.
I'm not certain why the OP would be having issues copying from CD to
iPod, but I doubt that's been tested very well. Usually, cds are ripped
to the hard drive first and then copied to the iPod. I suspect the
iPod's sync process is getting in the way and causing the CD ripping to
stop, as each track must be copied and then the database updated, and
the iPod will not do anything else while the database update is in progress.
A pain? Definitely, and is why I use my iPhone for apps and mobile web
access, while for music and audio books I have a Sansa Fuze running
Rockbox which I can just copy files to any way I wish.
Truthfully though, these types of issues belong more on the Ubuntu
forums than they do on the Orca list. But as long as the mods don't get
mad...

Hi,
It's ubuntu and gnome, but I'd expect the cdrom get's mounted to some place like /media/cdromso I'd think
you could use a shell script, but I've never actually delt with either coppiing off a audio cd or onto an
ipod.
