I have a theory. Linux has always been about the user and
customizability,. Well, maybe the weather script shouldn't be included
by default, but people are always free to move download or restore the
file from a backup or from the website. It's hard to say what should
be included and what should be left to the user. My opinion is, if you
want something done, take a minimal Debian/Arch/whatever CD and create
your own distro with your own philosophy, like Vinux. However, I don't
think it would be too much to ask of the Ubuntu/Fedora guys to include
some 3-key combo to run Orca, having at-spi already enabled and
working. This would enable somebody to install Fedora without the need
for a speakup-modified version, which is not much help if you have no
hardware speech synth like me, at least until you get it installed.
Accessibility is something that should be enabled wherever possible,
and if somebody doesn't like it, they can always remove it. Now,
something like the weather script is great because it offers quick
access to something useful like the time and date, but for the
purists, they can choose not to go to the website and download it.
Don't get me wrong. I use the weather script I just don't think it
needs to be included in all distros.
So in short, it would be great if a major distro would take a big leap
and enable at-spi and an Orca keystroke to help us install even more
effectively, and the great thing about Linux is things like scripts
and packages can be optional.
