Re: [orca-list] volume?

Well, its version 9.10. I don't generally use ubuntu and I'm a little iffy on the code names.

I no longer think its a volume issue because its doing the same thing with a USB headset. I was able to do an lsmod and saw that the USB sound modules were loaded as well as the modules for the virtual sound card. Even the alsa-oss driver was loaded.

The google seems to be saying that you need to uninstall pulseaudio. Whatever. I am doing this for a friend and I think I'm going to give up. She's got a ubuntu virtual machine with everything working except sound so she can take it from there.

PS: I did that lsmod by logging in, opening a gnome-terminal window, changing to root, piping lsmod to a file, copied the file to another machine via scp, and then opened the file in a text editor. This is how I found out what modules were loaded. Anyway, that's why I'm giving up. Its too hard to fix anything if the sound itself doesn't work.

Hi John,

I had a similar problem with Ubuntu 9.04, the sound came up muted, or
at least really low. I could bearly hear Orca and it took sending it
through a decent stereo from the headphone jack to be able to navigate
to the top panel and turn the volume up with up arrow.

What version of Ubuntu is this? I can't really help with Karmic as I'm
still using Jaunty.

Alex

I recently set up a ubuntu virtual machine under vmware Workstation 6.5. But I get no sound. I am hoping its something like the volume being turned all
the way down. Are there gnome hotkeys to increase the volume or unmute?
