Re: [orca-list] Orca and Java on mobile devices

Lulu-Ann,

At this time there isn't a general Java Micro Edition "accessibility API", which is the way a screen reader like Orca would get the information it needs from a JavaME app in order to make it accessible to blind folks. The closest thing available is the work being done by RIM to make the Blackberry line of phones accessible via the commercial Orator screen reader. This is an API-based approach. See http://www.humanware.com/en-usa/products/blindness/orator_for_blackberry_smartphones/_details/id_131/orator_for_blackberry_smartphones.html for the public / end-user info about Orator, as well as the FAQ at http://www.humanware.com/en-usa/support/orator_for_blackberry_smartphones/frequently_asked_questions__orator_for_blackberry_smartphones\\

Or is there another non commercial screen reader?

I want to code a non graphics Java navigation software using free geodata.
