Hello,
I can't and so won't attempt to fully answer your question as I am far
from being expert with wireless in linux, but I will point you in the
direction of some information which may help.
The intel wireless cards are reasonably well supported, but I think
there are some licensing issues with parts of what you need so not all
distros include it all by default (eg. I have a intel pro wireless 2200
but I think the firmware for it has been released under a closed source
license so not all distros will provide it). Basically I am saying you
probably can get things working but they may require extra files. If
this is the case you may not be able to find your wireless card in the
software until you add the extra stuff.
I haven't looked as to what wireless card model you have, but the intel
linux wireless drivers can be found at www.intellinuxwireless.org. There
are docs, a FAQ and links for some of the older intel wireless card
drivers.
As for WPA encription this should work, I don't know precisely what you
will need to use (not using ubuntu and not dealing with wireless much)
but I do understand wpa_supplicant might be of use, and may be worth
reading about.
As others have said that they find general linux useage questions
annoying on the list I will leave it here and say hopefully those
pointers will give you a good start and enough information to perform
successful google searches for any extra information. If you go to
distro specific forums you will get people who do use and know what that
specific distro provides for doing particular tasks, so are more likely
to be able to give detailed instructions on what to do. Every distro has
its own querks and ideas for how to do stuff so sometimes an expert in
one distro might be hopeless helping with another distro.

OK, I'm using WPSK AES11. I am running a Linksys WRT54GS wireless broadband

I'm on UBuntu Hardy 8.10, Orca 2.24.1.
I went in gnome-terminal
and typed what was suggested yesterday to me: nm-connection-manager
but nothing came up. When I did: nm-connection- then hit tab, it brought
up editer.
I went in there, just out of a hunch. I do! see a wired page, a wireless
page, and a Mobile Broadband page. On the wireless page, the list table is
empty. If I tab to the add button and hit space bar on that, I then get
totally lost. The fields don't make a lotta since to me on this screen. I
don't even see anywhere to have it scan for wireless connections within
range. Can someone tell me how to set this up? I'm not gonna tell you my
incription key for obvious reasons, but I will at least! tell you that my
SSID is: BlindPerspectives
I'll also again, tell ya I'm on WPSK using AES11.
I'm using the Intel ProSet Wireless. Or at least, that is how Windows saw
it. Yall do! have my permission to go to the Dell web site and look up my
system in the support pages, if that'll give you a better idea as to my
system, and what specs it has.
Thanks.
Chris.
