[orca-list] Speech-dispatcher problem

Hi,
I decided to install speech-dispatcher.  Everything went well, I followed the instructions for installing it in Ubuntu exactly.  It isn't working though.  It says pulse and alsa aren't working, but they must be because I have sound.  It can't connect to festival which isn't really a big deal.  It says espeak works, but spd-say only produces silence.  Even if I have Orca turned off, it still won't speak.  Here's the errors it gave me when starting:

I changed the port because it said it was unavailable to 6565.  It seemed to work, it didn't give that error any more, but it still doesn't speak.  Anyone have any ideas how I can get it working?
