Re: [orca-list] pixing pidgins main window?

I forgot to mention you may need to be rute to remove files. Encase your system complains remove them with
root or by using sudo in front of your commands when logged in as jerry for example. You should not have to
be root though as .purple is in your home directory and is the default location your terminal will start.
Just a thought. Typing on a phone is sometimes a bit unconbersome.

ok, this is something I can work with tomorrow, just one good question
though, is "aptitude " the same as "apt-get" just thought I would ask, as I
have never used aptitude before, a friend is teaching me commands, and he
taught me apt-get.
thanks for your help reguarding this.

Hello Jerry,

You can do this. It sounds like this will work. You will first need to
go to the termianl. Press altf2 and type in
gnome-terminal
after that, type in the following
rm -fr .purple
You woudl then have to remove pidgin completely. You woudl do the
following in the terminal
aptitude purge remove pidgin
You woudl answer y for yes.
To reinstall you do
aptitude install pidgin

.purple is the directory where all pidgin configurations for pidgin are
stored. So when you reinstall pidgin you would go back to the defaults
and have to configure accounts and preferences. You could alternatively
mess with an xml file, but I'm not sure how to help with that. The xml
file you want to look at if wanting to go this rout is .purple/prefs.xml
so you would open it with nano or vim or an editor
nano .purple/prefs.xml

right

Hey there Jerry,

It sounds like you might of selected the option in pidgin, but did not
do it the correct way. Usually when you have combo boxes with orca you
hit the space bar and then use the arrows to make your selection. AFter
making your slection you hit hte spacebar again to close the box. On a
webpage using firefox though, you use alt-l to expand them. So it
sounds
like pidgin is still set to go to the system tray. You might want to
try
pressing escape when the dialog comes up to log into your accounts. If
you might try having someone one messaging you and it may be restored
so
you can make those changes. Otherwise you will have ot have sited
assistance open it for you. the icon is located on the top right hand
side if I understand it correctly.

I hope this helps,
Alonzo

does anyone know how to fix it to wair I can see the main window? I
can't alt tab to it at all, even though I told it to never go to the
system tray I have heard that orca don't work with the system tray
that well yet, so I told pidgin to never go there. but for some
reason when I load pidgin, the main window disapears. I know I am
online, but like I said, I just can't see the main pidgin window.
