Well you weren't completely wrong thinking this. As I remember if you
use the espeak-generic module in speech-dispatcher then you can specify
the voice mapping (this does include voice variants). However I
wouldn't recommend using the espeak-generic (well I ideally wouldn't
recommend using the generic basic modules at all) as when using a
generic based module it produces its own audio output rather than using
