Re: [orca-list] problems when pasting big text in thunderbird

The problem is bigger than that I'm afraid. :-(

What I did as an experiment is just ignore every single blessed
object:text-changed:insert event in the Thunderbird script. The problem
persisted. It's not that we're trying to say something; it's that we're
getting hundreds of events that we're queuing up.

I've since filed a bug against Mozilla asking for these events to be
limited: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=510688

I'm playing around with "flood detection" at the moment, but it is very
very experimental, probably incredibly unreliable, and not something
that's going to make it into the upcoming release of Orca anyway --
assuming it ever makes it into the release. Therefore, our best bet
seems to be to get the apps in question (e.g. Thunderbird, Evolution) to
stop doing this to us.

Take care.

Hi all

I can reproduce this issue also in Evolution, I have to restart Orca or
simply silence speech when I paste a big piece of text.

Should Orca speak pasted text specially when this text is too long?
or simply it should speak "text pasted" or nothing

Javier

For what it's worth, it looks like Thunderbird is flooding us with a
startling number of object:text-changed:insert events (along with a
non-trivial amount of object:text-attributes-changed events). This will
require my thinking cap....

Hi all,
To reproduce try the following steps:
1. open gedit and create a text with about 350 lines. The content
doesn't matter. You can type "this is a test" and paste the same line
350 times.

2. Create a new message in thunderbird and in the body of the message
paste the text created in the step 1.

Orca starts to read this is a test and I have no way to stop. The
solution is restart orca.
Thanks.
