[orca-list] Orca, problem with sound card

Hi Nick,
I am not able to help you with the external synth, but in my opinion, there should be no problem to solve the problem with sound card. My brother has MSI laptop with Realtek HD audio card (Azalia), which also had this problem in Pclinuxos 2007. But after updating ALSA the problem was solved (in new Pclinuxos 2009-1 no action needed, works out of the box). He is running Pclinuxos 2009-1 with Opensuse 11.1 in dualboot but I think in Ubuntu it could be similar.

Hi All.

I'm trying to use my old Dolphin Apollo 2 external serial speech
synthesizer with ORCA. (I work in an office and the laptop has a daft
sound card that when you plug the headphones in it doesn't mute the
speakers.)

I've plugged it in but now what do I do? (sorry, I'm still getting my
head around Linux.)
I'm using Ubuntu hardy.

I had a quick look on the ORCA FAQ but couldn't see anything about this.

Any ideas gratefully received.
Cheers.
Nick.
