When I do a ctrl-alt-D for the first time, I end up on the desktop (as
expected) and pressing the kb-enter key, tells me that no items are
selected; in this situation, I can press shift-f10 and get the global
desktop menu where I can create launchers and folders and such. But
once an item is selected by arrowing around, the minimum is one
selected item. At this point, the context menu applies to the
selected item. Again, this is as I would expect. My question is, how
can you get back to zero items selected? In windows, you can press
ctrl-space to unselect the current item; this doesn't work for me
while in gnome. Is there another way to do this?
As a side note, On my Debian Lenny box, I cannot find a top level of
the desktop. When I press ctrl-alt tab, it just toggles between the
main desktop and the lower portion. I can't really tell if there even
is a top bar on this setup.
Any ideas here?
