Re: [orca-list] Orca/SpeakUP

Apples and oranges. What I mean is, Speakup is a set of modules and
optional kernel modifications to allow spoken output from virtual
concoles. It is *NOT* used in any GUI environments. Orca, on the
other hand is strictly used on GUI; in particular, on the GNOME
desktop. They work nicely together if you have a multi channel sound
card or if you have software mixing available. If you don't have
speakup available on your system, you can still run console apps but
you then would have to run them from a gnome-terminal. Frankly, I
find speakup's access to be better than what Orca does in a terminal.

Hi folks,

Is there a difference between Orca and Speak Up and if they are diffrent Screen Readers, do people have a
preference and why?

Thank you
