Ok, now this, is totally bazaar.

My Ubuntu box won't see my shares on the windows laptop, yet, when I set
up
/music in my homedir, as a share, then went through my network places,
entire network, Microsoft Windows Network, I do then see desktop samba
server Ubuntu desktop

I go under there, and what do ya know printers, and pdf show, and so does
music. So windows is seeing the linux box fine now, but not the other
way
around. Come on guys, think, think! we're so close!

We're half way there! Come on, think! LOL!
