I'm also interested in this as I just switched to linux and am looking
for a gui newsreader for getting binaries. Tried pan but couldn't
figure out how to subscribe to anything.
Evolution as well as Thunderbird are your friends.
Both are fairly accessible. When setting up news accounts, please check
out the messages of the account assistant carefully.
BTW.: Both programs also can handle RSS feeds, but I prefer Firefox.
For those who prefer the text console, there are several solutions, but I
used only two of them:
1. mutt-ng, a program based on Mutt; however it seems as if it has gone.
2. For those of you, who like a good challenge, Gnus/Emacs is an
excellent solution. Warning: Be prepared of a hell of configuring; but
if you've managed it, it's great.
Note: When you only want to read newsgroups, you can also use Lynx and
Elinks.
