1.)     It's unlikely you need edit anything in the Speakup Connector
makefile. You do need to build on a 32-bit system, though. Follow the
directions at ttsynth.com.

2.)     If you're hearing sounds in addition to Orca while using Pidgin,
your cd audio problem isn't related to Orca. Try a different player.
Personally, I find totem works well, though I don't typically play cd's
on my computers.
