Does installing speech-dispatcher from the repository you've just built 
provide pulseaudio support with the espeak, swift, and dectalk software 
synthesizers?

You can rebuild gnome-speech on any system at any time. if you choose to 
rebuild gnome-speech from the source tarball from the GNOME ftp site 
however, you will loose support for using pulseaudio with espeak, swift, and
