Hi,
Orca doesn't beep while a progress bar shows up, but you can check a 
checkbox in the speech settings, so that the percentage of the bar is 
read to you.
I don't know exactly what you are refering to in NVDA, but you can use 
the flat review to find objects on the screen that you can't reach with 
the caret. If you are on the desired object, click it by using either 
numpad-slash or numpad-star (or capslock+7 or capslock+8 in the laptop 
layout).
