Well, without speech, I have no idea what will be going on while gnome
is running.  When I start it up I can't switch to any text consoles.
I always used to so something is broke for sure.  Worse yet, I notice
that gdm is no longer in my path so I'm looking into reinstalling the
gdm package for my distro.  Some how, I think when I tried to run gdmsetup
earlier today, the gdm package must have gotten all fucked up when it
locked up on me.  When the lock-up occurred, the only thing I could do
was to cold start my machine.
