Hello List!
I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 on a Dell laptop. When the machine is on
battery, and any power management is active, Orca will not fully start
on first attempt. I hear "welcome to orca", then it dies. I have to
make many attempts (as many as six) before it will fully start. If I
turn off all power management, Orca will start correctly, every time, as
it does when the machine is plugged in. When no power management is on,
however, the battery will die without warning. Also, I have no power
gage; have to watch the clock.
I'm using Speech Dispatcher and Pulse Audio. This behaviour happens
whether Speech Dispatcher or Gnome Speech is used. Whether ALSA or
Pulse is used is also immaterial.
How do you laptop users out there get around this, assuming you've found
a way to have your Orca and power management?
Thanks,
Dave Hunt
