I think there might be a bug in the gedit application (or perhaps more 
correctly, the gtksourceview component that gedit uses) in that the line 
numbers does not appear to be exposed via the AT-SPI.  :-(  Please log a 
bug against the gtksourceview component to get this fixed.

The line number information is displayed in the status bar, however, 
which you can get Orca to present via 2 presses of the Insert+KP_Enter 
in the desktop mode.
