Hello, You will find a walk through for installing OpenSuSE 11 with Orca
support on my website at www.digitaldarragh.com/linuxat.asp
This will answer almost all of your questions in your previous message. One final note. OpenSuSE will not allow you to log in to the
graphical desktop as root. Darragh Ó Héiligh Experienced Web development, Linux / Windows Workstation and

On Behalf Of Mgr. Janusz Chmiel Dear
developers of Orca,
I would like to please You with highest respect to Your time and work, if You
could try to find The way to perform accessible installation of Opensuse 11.0
with Orca. I have Opensuse version 11.0 desktop CD with Gnome on my mind. I Am
not professional like a developers of Orca or so clever like A core developers
of Linux distributions. But eventhough I Am not so experienced developer with
many knowledge, I tried to do somethink to enable visually impaired to install
Opensuse 11.0 from A live CD to A hard drive. My approach is not from my own
head, somebody published this approach previously how to install Orca-UbuntuFeisty
- GNOME Live! . So I only had to extract necessary information from A desktop
icon, which is starting Opensuse installation. But eventhough I have done this,
it was not possible to install Opensuse by launching The installation program
from Gnome terminal Window. Orca could not get necessary events, so I was not
able to choose language, I had no needed feetback from Orca to use
installation program successfully. I
could only read some lines by using arrow keys, but no focus events was supported
by pressing TAB.
Installation program for UbuntuFeisty has probably
specially programmed for using it from Gnome Terminal Window, or Orca code was
specially adapted for using ubyquity program. I
started to think about next approach. But it is probably inpossible because of
internal limitations when running Opensuse Live CD and Gnome. I thought, if
user could normally boot to a Gnome desktop and after finishing loading of all
modules, user could press CTRL+ALT+Backspace twice and next, user could logon
as A root. But: will Opensuse allow to logon as A root user and will be
possible to start Gnome? After user would logon as a root, user could start
Orca and press Enter, user could answer Orca configuration questions, user had
to logout and logon again with root user name and Then, user could start Orca
again and could start installation program for Opensuse by using standard
desktop icon. Because Orca would be started as A root user and installation
program could also run as a root user. If
this approach is also inpossible, please is there any chance to execute
installation of Opensuse like a root user and Orca also like A root user when
booting from A live CD? If Orca included with version of Gnome would have
difficulty with accessing dialogs of installation programs, (I think that this
would not to happen), because if I understood everythink right, The Orca is not
able to provide its services for applications, which are executed like a root
user and if Orca is executed from a non root level, for Example, like Ubuntu
user in The Ubuntu Linux distribution, or like A Linux user name in The
opensuse.
Please do not write Me similar answers like: Why
You are using Opensuse, when Ubuntu Linux is specially adapted for visually
impaired users. I want to install Opensuse distribution, because The
reliability of interaction between Orca and Festival synthesizer is much more
better than interaction between Espeak and Orca in The Ubuntu distribution. In
The Opensuse, when I press CTRL key, The Festival stop speaking immediately,
sometimes I think, that I Am using Jaws Screen Reader for Windows with The most
expensive commercial text to speech engine. Orca is working so reliably and
stably with Festival synthesizer. If
there is really no chance to perform accessible Opensuse installation while
booting from A desktop CD with Gnome, because core developers of Opensuse
distribution would have to make complex changes to The whole package, I will
respect it with big sad inside my soul. I Am writing this little discussion
E-mail to please core developers of Orca or others advanced Linux user for
their time, so they could write some E-mail to this conference about this
topic. I really done maximum for finding reliable procedure for installing
Opensuse with Orca, unfortunately, I Am totally blind and experimenting with
logon and logout is not simple task for me, because there is no Screen
Reader which is not depend on The accessibility architecture. I do not know, if
even yasr could help me. I think, that no. Here
is The command line for launching Opensuse installation program. yast2
live-installer Thank
You very much for Your analysis of my E-mail. I believe, that somebody will try
to find The solution. The
kindness regards. Janusz
