Thanks Kenny and Janina,
I passed the "ttsynth_say hello" test, so it looks like ttsynth is
installed. I'm getting stuck on installing gnome-speech-ibmtts.
I'm at the point where I need to install libgnome-speech7 and this is
conflicting with libgnome-speech3. Should I uninstall libgnome-speech3
before installing libgnome-speech7 or will that ruin the speech I have

Hmmm, I suspect you can remove the older one, but be sure you have a way
back just in case, of course.

I ran into a similar problem with the Fedora (and my own) rpm build of
gnome-speech-0.4.16. The error I had claimed the libgnomespeech.so.7
wasn't installed, yet it was, so I forced gnome-speech-ibmtts with the
--nodeps argument to rpm, and everything works OK. Of source, that
shouldn't be happening, but I don't know the real solution.

now?

I'm running the feisty version of ubuntu, should I upgrade to gutsy?
Thanks,

...Hi.
...
...Your information is wrong. Both Debian Testing/unstable and Ubuntu
...Gutsy include gnome-speech packages for ttsynth.
