Hi Rusty:
This is an interesting feature enhancement request. I've opened a bug
on your behalf for this:

Hi Javi,
Actually in systems such as JAWS which allow the user to turn off key
interrupt of speech, you still have a dedicated speech interrupt key.
So, when I am chatting with aim in windows, I press the ctrl key to
interrupt the speech. So the user has the best of both worlds. You can
listen uninterrupted as you type, and you can interrupt when you want
to. It is also possible to discontinue speech all together.
I'm glad to get the key strokes for pidgin.
Thank you. They will be helpfull though I hope someone will think that
controling the key interrupt would be useful and worth implementing.
Thanks!
Rusty
