Re: [orca-list] Couldn't start orca

If you have access at the console level, you might try this after you've
started the X session:

Ctrl+Alt+F1 (takes you to a virtual console where you need to login)
export DISPLAY=:0
xdpyinfo

If you get errors from xdpyinfo, then the problem is that the DISPLAY
cannot be reached. I'm not sure how to resolve this. Can you do
something in a different way besides startx?

For example: I pressed alt+f1, left, up, enter, enter,
I returned to console mode.

I'm confused. :-( If you cannot test anything without Orca, how do you
know the GNOME environment is working?

This usually means that the Orca process cannot get to the X Window
System server. Can you run any other GUI app (e.g., gcalctool) from the
same shell where Orca is failing to start?

Hello

I've installed and setup orca svn 2550 properly.
But I couldn't start it while startx. I found the following messages:

Cannot start Orca because it cannot connect
to the Desktop. Please make sure the DISPLAY
environment variable has been set.

Why and how to fix it?
Thank you!
