It might be an installation problem -- did you install ViaVoice in a
spot where the libraries header files are in a standard location, such
as under /usr/lib and /usr/include?

A check you might try is running viavoice-synthesis-driver in a separate
window.  See if it spits out any errors.  In addition, when you
installed ViaVoice, were you able to get it to speak using whatever
sample test program might have come with it?
