Orca speech-dispatcher problem: log file says closing connection

hello list, one of my friends is having problems with speech-dispatcher.
according to the speech-dispatcher file ESpeak is starting normally 
without errors but then comes the "closing connection" message. There is 
neither any error nor any sound if we test it with spd-say hello. Please 
help.
