I'd rather suggest you hack the TTY driver of BRLTTY.
That should be relatively simple.

Thanks, within 5 minutes I had Brltty have the first output on the LCD!
I guess I have to have a look at the source, because in addition to the
text the LCD outputs some control codes too.
